METKA Equestrian Championship

 METKA Equestrian Championship at Markopoulo 

Markopoulo, May 9, 2018 

The Olympic Equestrian Center in Markopoulo will host for one more year the METKA Equestrian Championship, where the Champions in the two Olympic sports, Jumping and Dressage will be announced. 

The METKA Championship will be held from the 17th until the 20th of May, jumping sport in dressage main sand arena and dressage sport at the indoor arena. This year's Championship is expected to rhave a record of 400 pairs riders and horses from all over Greece, who will claim the titles of the champions in the classes of children, juniors, young riders and seniors. In addition, the Amazon and the winner of the young horses will be featured in Jumping .

Senior Champion will be the athlete who will score the highest score in the 2 first Championships and the Final. While in the other classes Children, Juniors and Young Riders, the Champions will only appear in the final competitoin. Amazon of the year will also be the athlete who will score the highest score in the first 2 championships and the final. After the first two championships in the Seniors class, Alexandros Fourlis (IOM) leads with Grandeur with 32 points, followed by Elina Dendrinou with Lando (IOA) with 26 points. In 3rd place Ilias Baliousis (IOA) with KEC Corsica and Nikolina Makarona (IKALSG) with Arc de Triomphe are ranked with 24 points.

In Dressage the champions of Children, Juniors, Young Riders and Seniors will emerge from the three-day competition.

Entrance to the Olympic Equestrian Center in Markopoulo will be free for the public, and this four-day event will be a celebration for the whole family with many parallel events, such as educational horses for kids and a children's farm.

In addition, HEF, in cooperation with the Industrial Museum of Education, implements a series of educational and recreational activities on "The World of Horses" in the framework of the Championship. The educational and recreational activities are aimed at students who will visit OKIM during the working days of the Championship in the framework of organized educational visits of schools as well as to the wider public, with a focus on families, expected during the weekends of the Championship.

Activities will be conducted in the open air area near arenas and aim to provide participants, with a focus on children, a pleasant experience of their contact with horses, combined with tracking of the competitions.
