Two medals for Greece!

Great success for the Greek delegation, which returns today from Barban, in Istria, Croatia, where the Balkan Endurance Championship took place on Saturday, October 11. Greece participated for the first time in a Balkan Championship with teams in both the Junior–Young Riders and Senior categories, and won two silver medals — one in the team event and one in the individual — a great achievement after many years.

In the Junior–Young Riders 100 km category of the Balkan Endurance Championship, the Greek team won the silver medal in the team event with its five riders: Angeliki Mermigkidi with Kami, Marianna Roussi with M Aggeo, Aliki Konstantinidou with Evridika, Areti Patsioura with Salamon Ektoras, and Zoe Tsitseliki Ozgunes with Salamon Salomi.

In the individual event, Angeliki Mermigkidi and Kami were crowned silver Balkan champions, completing the 100 km course in 06:44:47, finishing 2nd overall among 21 participants.

A particularly important award for the Greek rider and the Greek delegation was the “Best Condition in the Class” prize, awarded for the excellent physical condition in which her horse finished the race.

In the Junior–Young Riders team event, the gold medal was won by Bulgaria, while in the individual event, the gold Balkan champion was Maja Taslidic with Vezer from Serbia.

In the Senior category, two of the three Greek athletes successfully completed the 100 km course: Katerina Malliaki with Dias and Alexandros Alafragkis with Zafer, who finished 14th and 15th, respectively. Theodoros Landavos with Colorado Dream did not finish due to his horse’s injury caused by a lost horseshoe.

In the Senior 100 km Balkan Championship, the team gold went to Croatia, while the individual gold Balkan champion was Bulgaria’s Dennis Furlanski with Debra.
